Is Marmite in NZ the same as Marmite in the U.K?
No - Marmite in the United Kingdom and Marmite in NZ are made using different recipes, and are owned by two different companies. Sanitarium owns and manufactures Marmite here in NZ (in Christchurch) and Unilever owns and makes Marmite in the UK.

Does Marmite have any meat in it?
Absolutely not - Marmite is a meat-free product and always has been. It is perfectly suitable for vegetarians.

Where did Marmite come from?
Originally, from England. As a food, it was discovered as early as 1680 but was first manufactured for commercial purposes in 1902 in England. Sanitarium bought the rights to distribute Marmite in Australia and NZ back in 1908, with Marmite making it's first appearance on NZ shelves in 1910.

Is there really any difference between Marmite and Vegemite?
Are you for real? Of course there is! You only have to lift the lid and smell the difference - people are divided and it's an age-old family dispute as to which is superior. Both have different recipes - one is proudly Australian, the other a patriotic Kiwi.

What is Marmite made of?

Yes, definitely. The jars we use carry the recycling symbol "1" so they can be recycled.

Are Marmite and Vegemite both made in NZ?
They used to be - Vegemite recently pulled out of NZ and have gone back home to Australia where they belong. Marmite was not only the first, but is also the ONLY yeast spread made in New Zealand.

How do I get hold of NZ Marmite when I'm overseas?
